MELODY DEROGATIS: THEATRE ARTIST
Melody DeRogatis is a theatre artist specializing in acting, singing, and playwriting from Chicago, Illinois, currently pursuing her BFA in Musical Theatre and BA in Writing at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Melody got started in theater when she auditioned for her performing arts high school after seeing Fame at the age of 13, and has dedicated her life to theatre ever since. Melody has worked on over 40 productions, performing in theaters such as the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens, The Des Moines Playhouse, and Des Moines Onstage, to name a few. Additionally, Melody has also written over 40 plays (including Red Theater’s “30 Plays in 30 Days” challenge). While her focuses are performance and writing, Melody also has interests in directing and stage managing, and dabbles in props, make-up design, sound, and light board operation. In addition to theater, Melody considers herself to be a passionate civil rights activist, and hopes to merge her passions for theater and advocacy through her written own plays as her career progresses.
